M S McKenzie

My name is M. S. McKenzie, I am a landscape and digital artist, specializing in digital paintings and acrylic landscapes on canvas. I have been painting for over 20 years, most of my work highlights scenic areas in New England but I have also painted subjects from the west coast (Oregon, Washington and California) and Scotland in the U. K. I currently live in southern Maine with my wife Joanie, 5 dogs, Sampson, Maddyson, Bailey, Ginger and Pepper and 1 cat, Symon, our animals are also my subjects. I have also expanded into photography specializing in pet portraits.

I have an Associates degree in Web and Graphic Design and a Bachelors degree in teaching. My primary medium is digital painting using PhotoShop and photographs I have made of the places I have been. I plan on continuing this trend and moving away from working on canvas since this medium is much more flexible and liberating especially since developing cervical stenosis which has made traditional painting quite painful.

Digital painting is not simply taking a photograph and running it through a lot of filters in PhotoShop to make it look like a painting. I often spend as much time creating a painting with pixels as I do painting on canvas. My hope is that the art collector looks beyond the medium and sees the beauty of the art that has been created and that they enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
